7th Microscopy characterisation of organic-inorganic interfaces meeting
|
In McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada
The 7th Microscopy Characterisation of Organic-Inorganic Interfaces (MCOII) meeting will return to an in-person format in 2023 and will be hosted for the first time in North America at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada, home of the Canadian Centre for Electron Microscopy. The transatlantic scientific organizing team of Nadja V. Tarakina (MPIKG, Germany) and Kathryn Grandfield (McMaster University, Canada) have put together an exciting two-day programme. As usual, the first day will be more general, covering a broad range of microscopy approaches (correlative microscopy solutions, in-situ liquid microscopy methods, low-voltage electron microscopy and many more) in the context of imaging hybrid and soft matter. On the second day, a special Focus Lecture Series, entitled "Multi-dimensional and multiscale microscopy of organic-inorganic interface" will cover a more-detailed range of lectures on tomographic methods spanning light, X-ray and electron microscopy, as well as atom probe tomography and in situ electron microscopy/tomography. This conference will bring together world-leading experts in microscopy, highlighting the latest achievements, new opportunities and outstanding challenges in probing beam-sensitive and hybrid materials and their interfaces.

Puxano Talks, Emerging technologies in Structural Biology
|
In Ghent
The first edition of the Puxano Talks, Emerging technologies in Structural Biology will take place on February 17th in Otterburcht (Ghent, Belgium) and is being organized by Puxano in partnership with the VSC (Vlaams Supercomputing Center) and the OpenFold consortium. The talks will cover some of the latest tech advances in Cryo-EM. The first session will delve into the optimization of grids to effectively tackle challenging proteins, while the second session will examine the impact of the new software for predicting protein structures on Cryo-EM, with a focus on the open-source initiative OpenFold and its integration into different stages of the process.

Utilising novel sample preparation techniques to enhance Cryo-EM structural analysis
12 noon ET/4pm GMT
SPT Labtech are proud to support a Drug Discovery World webinar with presentations from two researchers for whom new sample prep methods have been important factors in overcoming sample-specific challenges they encountered during structural analysis.
Prof Wei-Jen Tang, University of Chicago will speak about overcoming denaturation effects to determine cryo-EM structures of multiple states of the small human protein PreP at near atomic resolution. Dr Radhika Malik, Icahn School of Medicine at Mont Sinai will discuss how overcoming strong preferred orientation issues resulted in the first structure of DNA Pol-zeta both without DNA and in the act of DNA synthesis.
Attendance at this webinar is free of charge, but registration is required

This 1-week course is focused on the theory and practice of cryo-ET methods. We will step through each stage of the cryo-ET workflow (specimen preparation, correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM), cryo-ET data acquisition, and computational processing). The mornings will include lectures and stimulating round table discussions. The afternoons focus on hands-on practicals to reinforce the concepts and topics covered earlier in the day. Users are welcome to bring their own samples and/or data.
