Instruct-ERIC Best Practices in CryoEM workshop
-
In Online via Zoom
The programme will be split into two sections, the main talks and the virtual interactive sessions. While the programme is specifically targeted to those involved in the running of high-end cryoEM infrastructure/facilities/computing, we are taking advantage of the virtual format and allowing anyone who is interested to join the main sessions. The virtual interactive sessions will be limited to those who are actively involved in their daily role in the running of cryoEM infrastructure, and will have limited slots available.
S2C2 Workshop: CryoEM of Macromolecules and Cells
|
In Online
1:00-4:00 PM PDT
A virtual workshop on ?the application of cryoEM to study RNA and protein-nucleic acid complex?es will be held as a joint SSRL/LCLS Users? Meeting and Pittsburgh Diffraction Conference event, on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 21. Determining RNA structure can be challenging. Recent advances in cryoEM, however, have made it possible to solve RNA structures at 2-4 ? resolution. All speakers at this event have collected their data at our Stanford-SLAC cryoEM facilities.

Single-particle cryo-EM workshop Fundamentals of Single-Particle Cryo-EM
-
In Online
This cryo-EM focused workshop will be held virtualy on 2 days: 8/17-18 from 12:15 to 5/6 pm ET and will focus on the fundamentals of cryo-EM, primarily benefiting those who are new to the field. In this workshop, we will highlight historical advances leading to the current state of the field, provide an overview of EM sample preparation and data collection, and detail cryo-EM data processing, interpretation and validation. We will monitor a live data collection and provide tutorials on on-the-fly cryo-EM data processing. This workshop is a companion workshop to Managing and Using National cryo-EM Facilities.
78th Pittsburgh Diffraction Conference

In Online
The 78th Annual Pittsburgh Diffraction Conference, a free virtual event hosted by SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory from September 19th to September 21st, 2021, and concurrent with the 2021 SSRL/LCLS Users' Meeting and Workshops.
Â
The conference will feature a welcome reception on September 19th (via Kumospace) followed by two full days of lectures, poster presentations and virtual tours to the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory facilities. Session topics include metals in biology, computational methods in structural science, cryoEM of biomolecules and cells, scientific opportunities for remote access to user facilities, neutron diffraction, and powder diffraction in materials science research. The best graduate student poster presentations at the conference will be awarded with the Chung Soo Yoo Award, established by the Pittsburgh Diffraction Society to honor Dr. Yoo’s memory, and a $400 cash prize. One award will be given to a poster related to biological research and one to a poster related to materials science or chemistry. All graduate students are welcome to submit a poster and be considered for the awards.

Smart Data Collection for CryoEM
-
In New York, NY
Simons Electron Microscopy Center New York Structural Biology Center, New York, NY Over the past 20 years, data collection for cryoEM has become highly automated. However, most data collection sessions still require operator oversight to obtain the highest quality data. This goal of this workshop is to address next generation data collection strategies that integrate machine learning and real-time processing to reduce or eliminate the need for operator intervention. We invite applications to participate in this workshop which will take place in-person in New York, NY.
Â
The workshop can accommodate a total of 25 participants. The application deadline is 1 September 2021. A final selection of participants will be made by 15 September 2021.

2021 Birkbeck/EMBO course: Image processing for cryo-electron microscopy
-
In Online
The aim of the course is to provide in-depth understanding of theory and practice in cryo-EM image processing, covering basic topics such as Fourier Transforms, image formation and CTF, to more advanced ones such as Bayesian methods, subtomogram averaging, postprocessing, high resolution refinement and atomic model building.
A series of pre-recorded lectures will be provided to watch in advance, and during the course there will be live video Q&A sessions with the experts. These will be followed by practicals on a wide range of commonly used software. The practicals will mainly be led by the software developers, giving a unique chance to understand in depth the ?black boxes?. In addition, we will have exciting live sessions and social interactions. We will only be able to take a very limited number of applicants, who will be selected based on a series of required criteria: skills and motivation: - some existing level of exposure to cryo-EM - basic familiarity with linux/command line operation - a commitment to continuing work with cryo-EM and to spreading the knowledge locally. technical requirements: - a fast and stable internet connection - ideally two monitors (or one plus a tablet: practicals will run on parallel guacamole and zoom sessions) Applications will only be open for a short time (closing in early July); we are sending this message now so that you can gather all the necessary documents in advance. The application form will require a cover letter, a CV, and a letter of recommendation from your supervisor. Please make sure it is clear in these documents how you meet the above criteria. An email with the details on how to apply and the necessary links will be sent to this mailing list as soon as possible.
We will take participants from PhD level up, and we ask that only one application is sent from any institution.
