The XII International Conference on Aperiodic Crystals (APERIODIC 2027) will bring together researchers working on aperiodic crystals, including incommensurately modulated phases, composite crystals and quasicrystals.

Researchers presenting at the 27th IUCr Congress in Calgary, Canada, are invited to submit their work to a dedicated IUCr Journals online collection showcasing research presented at IUCr2026.

Researchers who presented a talk or poster at IUCr2026 are eligible to contribute to the collection.

For pioneering the subject of crystal engineering and the supramolecular synthon concept, and for establishing the structural significance of weak hydrogen bonding and halogen bonding in molecular crystals and biology.

The IUCr Executive Committee is led by President Thomas Proffen, supported by Vice-President Manfred Weiss and General Secretary and Treasurer Petra Bombicz. Santiago García-Granda serves as Immediate Past President. The remaining members of the Executive Committee, listed alphabetically by surname, are Susan Bourne, Charlie Bond, Louise Dawe, Atsushi Nakagawa and Maria Cristina Nonato.

Korea won the bid to host the 29th IUCr Congress and General assembly in 2032 in Incheon, Korea. 

The 28th Congress will be taking place in Berlin in late August 2029. 

Thomas Proffen will take over from Santiago García Granda as the next IUCr President as elected at the 27^th Congress and General Assembly. He will serve as President from 2026 to 2029.
 

Jon Agirre, current Section editor of Structural Biology, Acta Cryst. D, has been unanimously voted in at the 27th IUCr Congress and General Assembly on 16^th August 2026. He will take over from Andrew Allen in January 2027. 

For outstanding contributions to small-molecule crystallography, including the elucidation of historically and pharmaceutically significant structures and pioneering structural studies of porous framework materials.

For pioneering contributions to crystal engineering and lattice dynamics, advancing the understanding and control of structure–property–dynamics relationships in functional molecular crystals.

The International Union of Crystallography (IUCr) invites expressions of interest from organisations wishing to host the IUCr Congress and General Assembly in 2032.

For the 2026 award, nominations will be contributed by IUCr National Committees for Crystallography. If you wish to be considered, or if you would like to nominate someone, please contact your National Committee. A list of IUCr Adhering Bodies and their National Committees is available here.

The International Union of Crystallography invites nominations for the Struchkov Prize, which promotes excellence in structural science and celebrates the achievements of young researchers in small-molecule crystallography.

The Gjønnes Medal in Electron Crystallography is awarded every three years and recognizes an outstanding contribution to the field of electron crystallography. The Medal is accompanied by a certificate and funding to present an invited Keynote Lecture at the triennial International Congress of Crystallography.

We are pleased to announce that the 2024 Guinier Prize is awarded to Prof. Takeji Hashimoto from Kyoto University, Japan.

The 2022 Guinier Prize was awarded to Jill Trewhella at the SAS2022 meeting in Campinas, Brazil with the following citation: 

I was born in Budapest, Hungary, and lived there until August 1939, when we moved to England, just two weeks before the outbreak of the war. Although I spoke very little English, I was accepted at the Hove County Grammar School, and unexpectedly placed straight into the fifth form to matriculate the same year.
