Scope of ISSCG-16
Researchers who are playing active roles in frontiers of wide-ranging fields of crystal growth will give lectures on a wide array of topics ranging from instructive topics to the latest topics. Students will therefore have an opportunity to systematically learn about crystal growth from its fundamentals to its applications. All of the lecturers and students will stay in the same lodging for six days. The friendly and at-home atmosphere will be a valuable opportunity for both lecturers and students.
The summer school is run in conjunction with the 18th International Conference on Crystal Growth and Epitaxy.

They are found in a large vaÂriÂety of sysÂtems (minÂerÂals, orÂganÂic comÂpounds, sinÂgle elÂeÂment unÂder presÂsure, oxÂides, ferÂro-electrics, inÂterÂmetalÂlic comÂpounds) and enÂcomÂpass inÂcomÂmenÂsuÂrateÂly modÂuÂlatÂed strucÂtures, inÂcomÂmenÂsuÂrate comÂposÂites and quaÂsicrysÂtals.
The strucÂture deÂterÂmiÂnaÂtion of apeÂriÂodÂic crysÂtals and the inÂfluÂence of the apeÂriÂodÂic orÂder on their physÂiÂcal propÂerÂties have made tremenÂdous progress in reÂcent years. HowÂevÂer the high diÂmenÂsionÂal deÂscripÂtion and suÂperÂspace apÂproach used to deÂscribe the atomÂic strucÂture of apeÂriÂodÂic crysÂtal reÂmains difÂfiÂcult to grasp for the non-speÂcialÂist.
In this school the basics of the analysis of aperiodic crystals will be explained for a non-specialist tarÂget auÂdiÂence, i.e. Phd stuÂdents or exÂpeÂriÂenced sciÂenÂtists workÂing in the field of crysÂtalÂlogÂraÂphy, chemÂistry, maÂteÂriÂal sciÂence or solÂid state physic and willÂing to have a baÂsic unÂderÂstandÂing of apeÂriÂodÂic crysÂtals.
This is a joint Antwerp Summer University School and C-MAC Euroschool.

In Grenoble
MXIS training course is dedicated to in situ protein crystallography. This 3-day workshop will include full lectures at the IBS and practical sessions at the ESRF, on beamlines FIP-BM30A and BM14. Full classes will be done in day 1 while practical sessions will be organized in subgroups that will be rotating from day 2 to day 3 (topics: ligand coating, crystallogenesis, in situ diffraction for crystal screening and structure resolution, in situ data processing). Possibility will be given to participants to practice on their own samples.

XXIII Users' Meeting.
 The ultimate aspiration of biology is to provide a comprehensive picture, over time and space, of the myriad of relationships between molecular structure, function and organization within bio-systems with increasing complexity level, ranging from single molecules to cells. Towards this aim, integrative approaches, which exploit state-of-the-art nano and sub-nano scale spatial resolution and unprecedented chemical sensitivity and selectivity, are required. The goal of this thematic workshop is to bring together biophysicists and biologists with scientists involved in the development of cutting-edge synchrotron-based and state-of-the art benchtop microscopies. The need for integrating the cluster of multidisciplinary synchrotron radiation based techniques with the newest laboratory approaches will be emphasized, focusing on their synergic interplay in the context of life-science.

COSPAR, the International Union of Crystallography and the International Astronomical Union are proud to announce the first International School/Workshop on Crystallography for Space Sciences.
The aim of the School/Workshop is to prepare a selected number of participants for the next generation of projects in search of a deeper knowledge and understanding of extraterrestrial minerals and rocks, either large solid bodies or interstellar dust particles, using in-situ and remote analytical techniques.
The workshop is intended to instruct about 30 PhD students, postdocs and young staff members in modern crystallographic techniques in the fields of diffraction, imaging, spectroscopy and remote sensing. They will also learn the formation of mineral growth patterns in the early Earth, our Moon, Mars and other planets and moons, meteorites and interstellar dust, as well as relevance of crystals with origin of life and detection of primitive life forms. During the workshop, the students will analyze and discuss data from the mission Discovery and Curiosity as well as the forthcoming Exomars mission. Portable difractometers and spectrophotometers designed for these missions will be used during field trips for remote analysis of volcanic rocks.

BSR is a unique forum to discuss the novel possibilities of synchrotrons and X-ray lasers and to promote their applications to challenging biological problems.
This meeting provides a forum for scientists involved in research and development on synchrotron and free electron laser sources to come together with a broad community of biologists, with the ambition to make the best use of the most advanced infrastructures in structural biology. Possible applications range from atomic-resolution and time-resolved structures of biological macromolecules, medium resolution images of the largest molecular complexes in the living word, and cellular and sub-cellular structures.

This year's edition will be a joint MX and Small Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS) workshop.
Day one will have updates from the MX and SAXS beamlines on capabilities, software and access. Day two will have a number of user talks highlighting the use and development of SAXS and MX data to address challenging scientific questions. The second day will also include a user discussion session.
