[Huang et al. (2016), Acta Cryst. D72, 93-112] for the X-ray structure determination of membrane proteins.
The workshop consists of introductory lectures, as well as presentations of
serial crystallography activities at both synchrotron and XFEL facilities.
The main part of the workshop focuses on hands-on practicals on methods for
growing crystals of membrane proteins by the in meso or lipidic cubic
phase (LCP) method, for collecting serial diffraction data on
micro-crystals directly in situ and for processing the data most
efficiently for high-resolution structure determination.
There is no registration fee and all local expenses will be covered, but
participants are requested to take care of their travel arrangements. The
workshop is limited to 20 students.

Advances in macromolecular X-ray crystallography depends upon solving structures from samples containing purified and concentrated protein, DNA, RNA, and their complexes. Novel samples are however increasingly challenging to produce and crystallize hence innovations which enhance the process of structure determination are urgently required, especially to increase the yield of quality diffraction crystals.
Experienced researchers from related fields, students and non-experts alike will find this webinar essential as it provides both theoretical and experimental evidence-based aspects of macromolecular X-ray crystallography. Delegates will leave with a better understanding about the underlying reasons why it is necessary to formulate novel crystallization screens with relatively complex conditions, such as the ones found in the MORPHEUS screens.

The workshop will be held at the Research Center Caesar in the framework of the 6th International Caesar Conference: Overcoming barriers - Atomic-resolution and beyond: advances in molecular electron microscopy (12-15th Sept. 2017).
The workshop is exclusive to registered participants of the conference, but provided at no additional costs. The target audience includes graduate students, faculty and staff.
This workshop will provide intensive hands-on-training in all practical aspects of single particle cryo-EM image processing using SPHIRE.
All stages of the SPHIRE pipeline will be covered, including:
- Micrograph movie alignment
- CTF estimation
- 2D classification
- 3D starting model generation
- High-resolution 3D refinement
- 3D focused classification and heterogeneity analysis
Registrations to the workshop will be accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis, however limiting participants to one per group/department. Confirmation letters will be sent latest beginning of August.
The workshop is limited to 20 attendees. Computing hardware will be provided in place.

The aim is to provide MX users with sufficient training to be able to operate any of the Diamond MX beamlines efficiently and to get the most benefit from their beam-time. The training will involve hands-on sessions on the suite of five operational MX beamlines (http://www.diamond.ac.uk/mx-home/) as well as offline software sessions.

Registration is free-of-charge with lunch provided on the 5th and 6th July, and accommodation and dinner for the night of July 5th. Travelling expenses within the UK will also be provided. The training is targeted at all users, and is not limited to students and post docs. It is essential that each BAG sends at least one representative per calendar year.

CSHL X-ray Methods in Structural Biology Course

This immersive course is an outstanding place to learn both the theoretical
and practical aspects of Macromolecular Crystallography because of the
extensive lectures from world-renowned teachers a continuous and the
hands-on experiments.
This 2017 course is the 30th year that this course has been taught at CSHL
with an All-Star cast of instructors. Along with the return of the
long-time instruction team of Alex McPherson, Gary Gilliland, Bill Furey
and Jim Pflugrath, there are established additional roles for Tassos Perrakis (NKI),
Paul Adams (LBL), Janet Newman (CSIRO), supplemented by many, many others
(see the course flyer linked above for more name dropping) to help us give
the participants an experience in Macromolecular Crystallography learning
that cannot be found anywhere else.
