This workshop is the successor to five previous successful work-
shops, which took place in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2016. It is
sponsored by the German Society for Crystallography (DGK) and
organised in cooperation with the DGK Working Group 1 (Biological
Structures).

The workshop comprises a series of basic lectures on the topic
and two extended practical sessions. It is aimed at PhD students
in Biological Crystallography with little or no experience in
diffraction data collection at a synchrotron. The practical sessions
will take place at the MX beamlines located at the electron storage
ring BESSY II.

The workshop fee is 100 EUR for DGK-members and 120 EUR for non-members.
This fee covers all conference material as well as board and lodging
for two nights on the campus in Berlin-Adlershof.

UXSS is an annual event jointly organized by the Center for
Free-Electron Laser Science (CFEL) in Hamburg and the Stanford PULSE
Institute. UXSS is intended to introduce students and postdocs to the
latest science that is enabled by novel X-ray Free Electron Lasers. The
program will be highly interdisciplinary, with topics ranging from
materials physics to structural biology. The list of confirmed speakers
can be found below. There will also be a coursework exercise involving
a mock proposal for European XFEL, with the help of experienced mentors.

Novel Techniques and Breakthroughs in 3DEM of Biological Structures

The workshop has been designed for postgraduate, postdoctoral and research scientists that deal with macromolecular crystallography and cryo EM but need further knowledge on the routine uses, the state of the art and fundamentals that underlie the modern techniques for macromolecular crystallography and cryo EM. The topics will cover crystallographic computing and fundamentals using XDS, CCP4 and Phenix, as well as the state of the art on topics such as the strategies for protein production, data collection,phasing, automated pipelines at synchrotron and refinement with ARCIMBOLDO, SHELX and SIR2014 and modeling with COOT.

MCS2019 will provide seven days of lectures and workshops. The course is designed for 25 highly motivated attendants.

ResMed is a week-long graduate/professional-level course providing an accelerated program for medicinal chemists, biologists and other industrial and academic scientists who choose to broaden their knowledge of the drug discovery and development process. The course concentrates on the fundamentals of drug discovery spanning initial target validation through clinical development. The course is taught by distinguished faculty from industry and academia and provides ample opportunity for discussion and networking.

At Spanish National Cancer Research Centre â€" CNIO Auditorium, Madrid, Spain

The 89th IUVSTA workshop will bring together leading scientists in electron microscopy, secondary ion mass spectrometry, atom probe tomography, cryo-spectroscopy and related technologies to address important challenges in biological and soft matter sample preparations for high-resolution imaging by high vacuum techniques

Two one-day workshops introducing the basics of RELION 3 led by developer and structural biologist Rafael Fernandez-Leiro (Spanish National Cancer Centre, Madrid) and assisted by Joshua Lobo (eBIC/Diamond) and the CCP-EM team

The Plenary Speakers will be two of the three 2017 Laureates of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry: Joachim Frank and Richard Henderson.

There are three cryo-EM focused symposium: 3D Structures: from Macromolecular Assemblies to Whole Cells (B07), Cryo-EM - from Physics to Cell Biology: Honoring the Remarkable Legacy of Ken Downing (B08), and Advances in Cryo-EM Technology (A12), as well as a number of tutorials and workshops focused on cryo-EM techniques.

The workshop aims at enabling structural biologists to fully exploit the latest instrumentation and software development at the SNS and HFIR facilities at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Participants of HANDS 2019 will become familiar with neutron techniques with hands-on experiments in sample preparation, crystallography, small-angle scattering, reflectometry and neutron spin echo. The workshop is designed for graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and faculty with limited to no experience with neutron sciences. Fellowships to support travel and accommodation are available. HTCC4 will entirely be dedicated to structural biology. Over four intense working days, we shall cover techniques which go beyond classical crystallography, yet which complement it so smoothly: XFEL â€" X-ray free electron laser, cryo electron microscopy NMR in macromolecular structural research biomolecular in silico simulations. The lecturers and tutors shall explain fundamentals of these methodologies, give examples on their practical applications, tutor the practical and interactive sessions, and moderate round table discussions on how to apply these methods to your own research. The examples of particular systems studied with the presented methods shall emphasize intertwist between the four chosen hot topics in contemporary research. The complementarity of each of the hot topics with classical crystallography shall be discussed.

The principal HTCC target audiences are, apparently, young(ish) crystallographers, electron microscopists, NMRists and researchers in in silico simulations dealing with biomacromolecular systems. Nonetheless, we count on researchers from the domains of (bio)chemistry, physics, biology and life sciences from both industry and academia, who appreciate and take advantage of the structural studies, want to spice up their research with an additional hint of interdisciplinarity, or, simply learn what’s new in the dynamic world of structural research.
