The 30th Annual Meeting of the German Crystallographic Society (DGK 30), which will take place in the historical main building of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich, will feature presentations and discussions of recent and exciting results of research on crystallographic topics.

This year the meeting will be a hybrid meeting from 5th - 7th January 2022 with the in-person event held at East Midlands Conference Centre, Nottingham.

Due to Covid we have had to make a few changes to the event. We are limiting in-person attendance to UK-based delegates only and we only have 220 spaces for in-person delegates due to social distancing - overseas delegates (and any UK-based delegates that either cannot get an in-person space or do not wish to attend in-person) may attend the meeting virtually and we have an unlimited number of virtual spaces.

Dr Michael Rossmann was a pioneer in protein crystallography and we hope you will be interested to come to the symposium in memory of him by listening talks from his friends, colleagues, and former trainees.

The symposium will be a hybrid one with both in-person and online. The in-person registration has been expired but the virtual attending registration is still open till Oct 22nd with a fee of $10. Keynote speakers include Dr. Felix Ray, Dr. Michael Diamond, Dr. Joachim Frank, Dr. Polly Roy, and Dr. Hao Wu.

The Center for Biomolecular Structure will host workbenches on solution scattering and macromolecular crystallography
 

Registration is open for the October 11 through 13, 2021 session and is free. 

Choose between workbenches or select both and learn of alternative structure determination methods. Participants will have the opportunity to send samples to measure during the workbench. Data analysis will be shared. If you are planning to send samples, make sure to register early to obtain the necessary credentials for remote access to the beam lines.

A virtual workshop on ?the application of cryoEM to study RNA and protein-nucleic acid complex?es will be held as a joint SSRL/LCLS Users? Meeting and Pittsburgh Diffraction Conference event, on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 21. Determining RNA structure can be challenging. Recent advances in cryoEM, however, have made it possible to solve RNA structures at 2-4 ? resolution. All speakers at this event have collected their data at our Stanford-SLAC cryoEM facilities.

The Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source will host an online workshop identifying forefront research questions probing applications and consequences of macromolecular crystallography under ambient (room temperature to physiological) conditions. A secondary lens will be experimental methods that support this research, including both synchrotron-based and complementary tools.

Virtual CCP4 Protein Crystallography Summer School 2021 to be hosted by the John Innes Centre (Norwich, UK).
 

The school will take place from Monday 6 September â€" Friday 10 September inclusive and is intended for students and researchers new to crystallography. Its dual aims are to provide comprehensive training in crystallography and to promote best practice. The lectures cover the range of techniques required for protein structure solution, from protein expression through to structure validation. Intensively supervised computer tutorials enable students to relate the theory presented in the lectures to practice.

The 78th Annual Pittsburgh Diffraction Conference, a free virtual event hosted by SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory from September 19th to September 21st, 2021, and concurrent with the 2021 SSRL/LCLS Users' Meeting and Workshops.
 

The conference will feature a welcome reception on September 19th (via Kumospace) followed by two full days of lectures, poster presentations and virtual tours to the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory facilities.

Session topics include metals in biology, computational methods in structural science, cryoEM of biomolecules and cells, scientific opportunities for remote access to user facilities, neutron diffraction, and powder diffraction in materials science research.

The best graduate student poster presentations at the conference will be awarded with the Chung Soo Yoo Award, established by the Pittsburgh Diffraction Society to honor Dr. Yoo’s memory, and a $400 cash prize. One award will be given to a poster related to biological research and one to a poster related to materials science or chemistry. All graduate students are welcome to submit a poster and be considered for the awards.
