The School will address key advances in magnetic-structure research, as well as the foundational and state-of-the-art of theoretical, experimental, and computational capabilities that made these advances possible. The program, which includes both lectures and many hands-on-tutorials, is designed to engage both new and veteran members of the magnetic-structure community.

The school comprises theoretical and in-depth tutorial training on state-of-the-art methods in macromolecular crystallography.

The daily schedule will be organized into three sessions â€" lectures, tutorials, and hands-on activities, with interactive troubleshooting of the technical difficulties the participants face in their projects.

Applicants: Graduate students, postdoctoral researchers and young
scientists at the assistant professor level, are encouraged to apply. Only
25 applicants will be selected for participation. Participants of the
workshop are strongly encouraged to bring their own problem datasets so the
problems can be addressed during the hands-on/discussion sessions.

The registration for application is free. Few scholarships to cover travel
expenses for students from Brazil and Latin America will be available.
Accommodation expenses will be covered to all participants. More
instructions will be provided once the selection process is completed.

Student registration: 150 € Regular registration: 200 €. The fees include coffee breaks, printed material and five lunches at the University restaurant, located within the Faculty campus, at walking distance from the venue (vegetarian and vegan options available on request). Student fees apply on submission of copy of the student card valid the current academic year. Other registration fees, with the inclusion of accommodation, are also available.

Limited financial support will be available for young participants (students and post-doctoral fellows) depending on the amount of grants available.

The application details and procedures will be announced once the budget is finalised. The financial support that will be provided will be in any case partial and there will be no money transfer: grants will be attributed on site.
The following conditions apply for being eligible to receive a grant

• Funds from IUCr are reserved to applicants registered in the World Directory of Crystallographers. Registration is free of charge but undergoes a preliminary screening at IUCr: be sure to submit your registration well in advance before applying for financial support; your IUCrID is required to apply for financial support.
• Funds from ECA will be attributed to European applicants who must be or become ECA members. Grant receivers will be asked to write a short report about their participation.
• Fund from AFC and SFMC are reserved to French applicants.
• IUCr funds and funds from registration fees will be used to approach as much as possible a country and gender balance.
• All other funds that may be obtained will be used according to the rules imposed by the funding agencies.
• Students are requested to submit a copy of their student card, as well as a recommandation letter by their supervisors, explaining how they will benefit from participation in the school
• A list of publication is mandatory for post-doctoral fellows, optional for students
• A short motivation letter is requested from all applicants

After the success of the first edition of the European Symposium on Chemical Bonding, that took place in Rouen in 2016, it is our pleasure to inform you that the second edition of this series will be held in Oviedo, Spain, from September 3 to September 7, 2018.

Following the spirit of the ESCB1, the conference will be devoted to showing new developments as well as relevant applications in the field of chemical bonding. Besides a set of invited lectures by leaders in the field, we expect to gather a number of younger researchers, for whom we plan to offer shorter oral communications.

In keeping with the tradition of ESCB1, a practical school on methods, applications and computational tecniques, this time focused on quantum chemical topology tools in chemical bonding will take place before the beginning of the meeting, from September 2 to September 3. We expect younger students interested in the school to also join us in the conference.

Powder diffraction: Theory, Software and Applications

The aim of the 2018 edition of the Italian Crystallographic Association (AIC) International Crystallography School (AICS2018) is to give an overview on the characterization of polycrystalline materials through X-ray Powder Diffraction. The topics of the school span from the fundamental principles of powder diffraction to advanced methods of data collection and analysis with examples of applications of scientific and industrial interests. For each topic, theory will be strictly followed by practical sessions centred on the relevant software so that participants familiarise with some widely used computer programs for data analysis and interpretation of the results.

Workshop organizers aim to explore ways to advance our understanding of Earth’s complex co-evolving geosphere and biosphere through the collection, analysis, and visualization of large and growing data resources. Thanks to years of intensive efforts in developing the Keck- and Sloan-supported Deep-Time Data Infrastructure (http://dtdi.carnegiescience.edu), which analyzes, quantifies, and visualizes Earth history as a system of patterned co-evolving networks, researchers are poised to make transformational advances in understanding the planet’s evolution.

The 4D Workshop for Deep-Time Data Driven Discovery will be convened as prelude to a potential long-term program to invent, modify, and apply emerging methods of data analysis and visualization to elucidate the planet’s past, present, and future. Earth’s evolution has been an intertwined succession of increasingly complex physical, chemical, and biological events. Keys to discovery lie in the continued integration, development, and exploitation of data, facilities, and expertise. The 4D Workshop will gather bio-, geo-, and data experts from around the world to explore pathways to a deeper understanding of the origins and evolution of our home and ourselves.

We are pleased to announce that the 17th International Summer School on Crystal Growth will be held in Granby, CO USA from July 21-26, 2019 in conjunction with 19th International Conference on Crystal Growth and Epitaxy (in Keystone, CO on July 28-August 2, 2019).

The venue of the school will be the YMCA of the Rockies â€" Snow Mountain Ranch. The YMCA is ~100 miles from Denver International Airport (2 hour drive) and ~80 miles from Keystone (1.5 hour drive). The technical program consists of approximately 15 lectures covering theoretical and experimental aspects of the growth and characterization of semiconducting, oxide, metallic, organic and biological crystals. Lectures are planned by leading researchers in fundamentals of bulk crystal growth and epitaxial processes, solution phase growth, nanocrystallization, and in situ and ex situ characterization.

The format of the school is designed to encourage interaction between lecturers and attendees. Informal discussions will be facilitated via social events including breakfasts and dinners, poster sessions with extended coffee breaks, a welcome reception and outdoor barbeque. In addition, the YMCA venue has numerous outdoor activities which will provide additional opportunities for attendees to interact in a scenic outdoor setting.

Progress in Crystal Engineering - Design, Properties, and Function

Topics range from instrumental advances and new methods in polarized neutron diffraction, X-ray magnetic diffraction (XMD), Compton scattering, time-resolved crystallography, Bader’s Quantum Theory of Atoms in Molecules (QTAIM) and more generally quantum chemical topological (QCT) approaches, with an emphasis on emerging fields such crystals under extreme external conditions of pressure and applied external fields including intense laser field. The conference will touch upon applications of crystallographic and quantum chemical research in material, drug design, and crystal engineering.

The 2018 Indaba, the ninth in a series of interdisciplinary workshops, organized by the South African Crystallographic Society (SACrS) in conjunction with the Structural Chemistry Commission of the International Union of Crystallography.

XTOP2018 is an historical conference, the row starting in 1992 in Marseille, the last one was held in Brno (Czech Republic).

RapiData 2018 at SSRL is a practical course in macromolecular X-ray diffraction data collection, data processing and structure solution. The aim of the RapiData course is to educate and train young scientists in data collection and processing methods at synchrotron beamlines, using state-of-the-art software and instrumentation

The course will comprise hands-on experiments at the SSRL beamlines, software tutorials, and lectures on the following topics:
