Hands-on-Training in EXAFS Beam Line

I2PC, as developers of Scipion, has as one of its top priorities the improvement of the functionality that Scipion offers to Cryo-EM Facilities. We will present Scipion and how it is used in several Facilities together with its development Road Map. More importantly, there will be ample time to discuss and present common Facility problems, and hopefully share with others how you are running your Facility.

From process qualification until component certification, additive manufacturing presents big challenges as a new field of material processing with multiple new parameters. Therefore, new insights concerning characterization are envisaged for process and component standards and certification, as well as for experimental benchmark input for modellings.

European large installations ILL and ESRF offer a common frame for additive manufacturing industrial investigations, where unique static (scanning) and dynamic (in situ) studies on stresses and imaging, from the nanometre until several centimetres range, are possible. To foster industrial escalation of additive manufacturing, we aim at bringing together industry and applied sciences to address key manufacturing issues regarding final quality assessment of products.

Why neutrons?

• For non-destructive and bulk characterization: neutrons can penetrate several cm into matter.
• For new information: neutrons interact in a different way with matter, hence giving another contrast, i.e. for hydrogen!
• For sample environment and in situ studies

Why Synchrotron?

• High energy X-rays, allowing higher penetration depth for real 3D imaging of high density samples.
• High intensity X-rays for non-destructive probing of material structure and devices with high spatial resolution from millimetres to nanometres.
• High intensity X-rays for real time measurements with less than a microsecond time resolution and high-throughput analysis under real manufacturing and operating conditions.

This workshop, with no registration fee, brings to crystallographers from different countries to present their work and exchange ideas across multiple areas of research involving crystallography.

The official language of the meeting is English.

There are a number of bursaries available for PhD students and post-docs; deadline for bursary application is 15th April 2018.

This international conference is jointly organised by the Diamond Light Source, the Mary Rose Trust, and ISIS Neutron and Muon Source. The focus of the conference will be on the innovative use of synchrotron and neutron radiation to investigate artistic and archaeological materials and artifacts. As such, the conference is open to all interested professionals, including potential users of synchrotrons.Â

The small size with maximally 200 participants and the familiar atmosphere in the center of the Bavarian Heartland make this meeting a highlight in the national and international conference calendar. Especially for the young generation of scientists the Murnau conference is the ideal platform to bring their work to the attendance of the community and to get in contact with scientific leaders in the field.Â

The third joint conference of the Italian Crystallographic Association (AIC) and of the Italian Synchrotron Radiation Society (SILS).

The program selected by the Scientific Committee will encourage the participation and contacts between members of the two associations involved, enabling ideas exchange in scientific fields concerning the study of condensed matter properties, such as Crystal Growth, Nanoscience, Methods and Techniques for the determination of Atomic, Electronic and Vibrational Structures, Molecular Recognition, Polymer and Materials Science, Molecular Medicine and Structural Biology.

Exploring the Capability of Cryo-EM to Provide Insight Beyond Static Structures of Macromolecules

This multidisciplinary workshop will be dedicated to recent results, obtained using neutron scattering techniques, in various scientific domains representative of the whole neutron users community. The conference will contain five main topics: magnetism, soft matter, condensed matter, biology and environment, and instrumentation.

The aims of this meeting are:

• To strengthen links between French neutron scattering users,
• To provide a place where advanced results from neutron scattering experiments can be presented and discussed,
• To inform the community about the evolution of neutron facilities in France and abroad, and about the development of new neutron techniques, instrumentation, and their applications,
• And to welcome and promote the work of young neutron users.
