Call for Papers
In recent years, both synchrotron and laboratory-based facilities have witnessed astounding progress in hard x-ray nanoimaging instruments and methods. Nanoprobes with sub-100-nm resolution have proliferated, while imaging with 1-nm spatial resolution may soon become possible. Combination and correlation with other analytical techniques such as x-ray spectroscopy, diffraction, tomography, ptychography, in-situ environment, and other methods are solving more important questions than ever.ÂThis conference will focus on the latest developments in optics, instrumentation and systems, data science, and integration with other techniques, for both scanning and full-field x-ray microscopes, including:
- nanoprobes, full-field microscopes, and dedicated beamlines
- high-resolution nanofocusing optics
- instruments for nanoimaging and nanopositioning
- in-situ and operando sample environments
- data science and data management

Satellite workshop of the SOLEIL 2017 User Meeting (19-20 January 2017)
The LiXS 2017 Liquid X-ray Spectroscopy workshop aims to bring together the scientific community on the use of spectroscopy for the study of liquids. Thanks to recent experimental developments, it is now possible to apply powerful methods for characterizing the electronic properties of materials (X-ray photoemission, inelastic X-ray scattering, UV or IR spectroscopy) to samples in the liquid phase. These methods provide information on the local chemical properties, the structure or the light-induced ultrafast dynamics in the liquid phase and allow for a detailed characterization of the physico-chemistry of molecules in solutions or at the liquid-solid interface. The synchrotron radiation sources are an undeniable advantage in this respect thanks to their extreme brightness, tunability, focusing and control of the incident photons polarization.
During this workshop we will discuss results especially of photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS and (R)AES) combined to a liquid microjet or performed in an near ambient pressure (NAP) environment, and X-ray emission spectroscopy (XES, RIXS) associated with liquid cells. The experimental works will be highlighted by recent theoretical developments dealing with the electronic structure of liquids. The workshop will also provide an opportunity to present the latest developments in instrumentation and microfluidics.

5th Banff Meeting on Structural Dynamics

The meeting is devoted to the dramatic improvements in observing transient phenomena at the atomic scale, brought about by breakthroughs in high peak-brightness electron and X-ray sources opening up new capabilities in time-resolved X-ray and electron diffraction, crystallography, spectroscopy and imaging.
Previous meetings held in 2010, 2012, 2013, and 2015 were extremely exciting and vibrant, with presentations and discussions on spectacular developments that have been opening up new vistas with atomic clarity. The field is continuing with its explosion of ideas and disruptive technologies that greatly benefits from the sharing of information and cross pollination of concepts from a broad range of disciplines and technical approaches. No less is expected in 2017, with new developments in electron sources, and possibly first results from the European XFEL and

VUVX2016 is the third conference following a merger of two long standing conference series â€" the International Conference on Vacuum Ultraviolet Radiation Physics (last meeting was the 15th in that series, VUV-15 in Berlin, Germany in July 2007) and the International Conference on X-ray and Inner-shell Processes (last meeting was the 21st in that series, X-08 held in Paris in June 2008).Â

REXS2016. Resonant Elastic X-ray Scattering

REXS2016 conference on resonant elastic x-ray scattering is the 3rd in a row after the very successful events in Aussois 2011 and the subsequent conference in Oxford 2013.
The REXS conference series re-started again almost 20 years after the conference on Resonant Anomalous X-ray Scattering 1992 in Malente and the first conference on Resonant X-ray Scattering 1974 in Madrid. The conference is aimed at stimulating interaction and discussion of scientists working in the field of hard condensed matter research with synchrotron radiation and using spectroscopy and scattering methods, that base upon resonance effects occurring close to the X-ray absorption edges.
Anomalous or resonant elastic X-ray scattering takes advantage of resonance enhancement of the scattered signal at the X-ray absorption edges and associated polarization effects. Experiments in this area range from conventional anomalous scattering and resonant magnetic diffraction to the investigation of exotic multipolar order or nuclear resonant diffraction. In addition, at REXS2016 we would like to emphasize the intrinsic ties and complementarity between scattering and spectroscopic methods (XMCD) for the investigation of properties of hard condensed matter materials and would like to bridge the gap between the two communities both in the soft and hard X-ray regime.The conference will cover the following topics:- Basic concepts/theory

Introduction to ISIS and Diamond facilities for CDT students 2016

Diamond Light Source and the ISIS neutron and muon facility will host a four-day general introduction to these facilities, aimed at first-year PhD students within UK research-council funded Centres of Doctoral Training.
The course will provide an introduction to facilities and techniques, based on the following techniques: Imaging & Tomography; Small Angle Scattering & Disordered Systems; Surfaces, Films & Multilayers; Powder & Single Crystal Diffraction; Electronic & Molecular Spectroscopy; Muon Studies. Â The School will be comprised of numerous short introductory talks and selected tutorial/practical sessions, plus evening research seminars given by experienced facility users. It will be suitable for first-year PhD students who have a broad interest in science, and will require no prior experience of the techniques. In Diamond Light Source
Diamond holds an XAFS course for beginners each year. This is not it. In discussions with some of our users it is clear that sometimes they have issues analysing data from the spectroscopy village beamlines that can’t be sorted during the workshop or are to do with data not covered by it, it PYMCA data or data from I08 in Mantis etc.
Hence as a trial we will hold two one day workshops where we will invite 20 people each day to bring their data analysis issues to Diamond and a team of Spectroscopy Village scientists will be on hand to try to help work through the issues. We will have a User:SV scientist ratio of 1:4 so each user should get a good fraction of time.
The idea is that there will be a staggered arrival between 09:00 and 10:30 so each person gets about 30 minutes help at the start and then more through the day as the need arises. If we find common issues between people there will be the opportunity for small tutorials to occur.
