TCM6 is intended to provide an excellent opportunity for National, Maghreb and International researchers to make their own work known to a wider audience and to have discussions with other participants. This conference will also be an opportunity to exchange experiences, create and consolidate cooperation between different research structures.
This outstanding conference, organized by the “Tunisian Crystallographic Associationâ€, will take place from 1â€"5 November 2017 in a beautiful and exotic Hotel: El Mouradi Djerba Menzel 4* on Djerba Island, an ecological place, very popular by its palm groves, its beaches and its wetlands populated by various species of migratory birds.

Advances in macromolecular X-ray crystallography depends upon solving structures from samples containing purified and concentrated protein, DNA, RNA, and their complexes. Novel samples are however increasingly challenging to produce and crystallize hence innovations which enhance the process of structure determination are urgently required, especially to increase the yield of quality diffraction crystals.
Experienced researchers from related fields, students and non-experts alike will find this webinar essential as it provides both theoretical and experimental evidence-based aspects of macromolecular X-ray crystallography. The workshop â€" the seventh of a series initiated by Hans Scheel in 1998 â€" is devoted to Crystal Growth Technology, industrial crystal growth technologies and equipment. The focus lies on preparation of bulk and substrate crystals.
Topics of the workshop will include:
- Industrial growth technology of silicon and III-Vs (for electronics and photovoltaics)
- Growth technology for oxide and dielectric crystals (for piezoelectrics, lasers, scintillators, etc.)
- Wide band gap semiconductor substrates (sapphire, GaN, AlN, oxide electronics, etc.)
- Emerging fields and technologies in crystal growth
- Crucible and equipment technologies
- Raw materials, recycling, and efficiency issues
The workshop links R&D to the actual production, bridging science and practice. International experts will present topical lectures with enough additional time for discussions and debate. The workshop will also comprise a panel discussion and poster sessions, including a DGKK poster prize.
9th Workshop on Substrate-Mediated Polymorphism in Organic Thin Films

This workshop aims to build on the understanding and uses of a special class of crystal polymorphs which only exist in the vicinity of a solid substrate and are denoted as (metastable) surface-mediated polymorphs (SMPs). These polymorph are of importance for organic semiconducting conjugated molecules used in novel opto-electronic devices, where thin film structure is crucial for device performance, and also for phamaceutical systems, where utilising the enhanced properties of some SMPs is an emerging field of research.
The following aspects will be covered in the workshop:
- Self-assembly of molecules at surfaces

RimerThe Crystal Growth and Assembly Gordon Research Conference (previously known as "Thin Film and Crystal Growth Mechanisms GRC") is dedicated to the knowledge and understanding of the fundamental atomic and nanoscale physics and chemistry that are central to the nucleation and growth of crystals for a wide array of technologies. This well-established conference draws researchers from around the world in the fields of physics, chemistry, materials science, biology, and beyond. Historically, the conference has emphasized concepts rather than specific materials, technologies or growth methods. This focus has attracted scientists with a broad range of specializations, from semiconductor nanowires to biomineralization and from in situ microscopy to multi-scale computer simulations, who find common inspiration in seeing how the general principles of crystal thermodynamics and growth kinetics are applicable to many fields.Â
The 2017 Crystal Growth and Assembly GRC will continue the tradition of a highly interdisciplinary program, highlighting the most recent developments in the field. It will cover topics like nucleation, low-dimensional crystals, surface kinetics, bulk crystallization, nanocrystals and biomineralization. This year a particular focus will be on the assembly of meta-materials that show a hierarchy of ordering.Â
All attendees are encouraged to present posters, from which some will be selected for short oral presentations. The collegial atmosphere of this Conference, with exciting invited lectures, which are complemented by lively poster sessions, as well as opportunities for informal gatherings in the afternoons and evenings, provides an avenue for scientists from different disciplines to brainstorm and promotes cross-disciplinary collaborations in the various research areas represented. An informal power hour focusing on the career development of women in science will be included as well.Â
We are excited that this year we can again offer the corresponding Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) that will highlight graduate student and postdoctoral research in a meeting preceding the GRC and with the same broad scope of topics.

Chairs: Abby Goldman and Wenhao SunWe are very excited to be bringing back the Gordon Research Seminar on Crystal Growth and Assembly! The GRS on Crystal Growth and Assembly is a unique forum for graduate students, post-docs, and other scientists with comparable levels of experience and education to present and exchange new data and cutting edge ideas.Â
This meeting will bring together young scientists across various disciplines to present and discuss topics ranging from the fundamentals of nucleation and crystal growth, to the formation of thin films, hierarchical structures, biominerals, and beyond.Â
In particular, this year at the GRS we will highlight a historical perspective, starting with classical crystal growth concepts initiated by Gibbs and Ostwald, among others, and explore how these concepts have evolved into the present and future of crystal growth research. Another important focus at this GRS will be networking and professional development, including academic and non-academic career paths (industry, policy, management, etc).Â
We invite students from all sub-disciplines of Crystal Growth and Assembly to submit abstracts for poster and oral presentations.
48th BACG Annual Conference

In 2017, the annual meeting of the British Association of Crystal Growth (BACG) will take place in Manchester, from 27th to 30th of June.
An exciting programme comprising the latest developments in the areas of crystal growth, nucleation, crystallisation engineering and characterisation of crystalline materials is being prepared.
The BACG 2017 will include keynote lectures, contributed lectures and posters as well as the BACG annual lecture and young scientist of the year award.

The First UAE Synchrotron User Meeting

The purpose of the workshop is to bring together the best scientists from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and synchrotron experts and see how the most strategic fields for the UAEÂ can be addressed through synchrotron science. UAE scientists will include both national and non-national speakers. International top synchrotron experts will give a talk at the event.
One of the main points will be to understand what the requirements of the UAE scientists are in terms of synchrotron research (what types of beamlines, techniques, etc.). Once these are defined, we will try to understand what would be the best option in terms of costs and benefits for the UAE.
