The CSD Python API (Application Programming Interface) enables you to use many capabilities of the CSD Portfolio programmatically. It can be used to control complex analysis processes, including automated workflows, and it can be integrated with your specialist routines. You can use the CSD Python API to create tailored scripts using the entire CSD functionality to answer your targeted research questions or integrate access to crystal data and CSD functionality into your workflows.
You will learn hands-on how to access and search over 1.3 million organic and metal-organic crystal structures in the CSD using the CSD Python API.
What we will cover In this workshop, you will explore the CSD using the CSD Python API. The session will include presentations and demonstrations by CCDC expert tutors and a hands-on part for you to try the software, with the tutors available to help you and answer your questions.
You will learn: - How CSD entries are represented in the CSD Python API. - How to access CSD entries using the CSD Python API. - How to set up and run a search in the CSD Python API. - How to output results. - How to access and run Python scripts in Mercury. - About case studies demonstrating how the CSD Python API can be used. - The workshop will be recorded and all registered participants will have access to the recording.

 At the XXV Congress and General Assembly of the International Union of Crystallography in Prague, it was decided that the 35th edition of the European Crystallographic Meeting would be held in Lviv, Ukraine, in 2025.
 Unfortunately, there is a war in Ukraine, and it is not reasonable to organize a great scientific event in Lviv in 2025. An alternative was thus elaborated where, thanks to a collaboration between the Ukrainian Crystallographic Committee and the Polish Crystallographic Association, the conference site will be Poznan, a city in neighbouring Poland.

During this school, we will provide an accessible and in-depth education in quantum mechanics and related semi-empirical methods, tailored to provide a solid foundation in understanding materials structure, physicochemical properties, and the response of materials to physical changes and experimental probes. The theoretical foundations of crystallographic experiments will be briefly recalled, and the methodology of data collection and analysis for quantum crystallography methods will be presented and trained in detail. Speakers at this school will go beyond just theoretical calculations, to demonstrate the deep interplay between theory and experiment: for example, by showing how experimental observations could be used to restrain or constrain first-principles calculations or otherwise showing how calculations could improve the interpretation of an experimental result.
In keeping with this overall aim, the synergy between theoretical and experimental areas will be highlighted to provide a holistic view of the different fields in Quantum Crystallography. This area of knowledge is going through an important boost in the last years, thanks to new coupled approaches and new communities getting in touch with each other. This school will bring together students from these two communities, feeding this new area of knowledge and letting interdisciplinary grow among the students.
Workshops will provide hands-on tutorials on the use and development of software related to the topics, including the development of required input data, and using case studies.
Additionally, the school will benefit from the synergy with the Electron Crystallography School running in parallel, with several lectures shared between the two schools. This will offer a unique opportunity to explore interdisciplinary applications of crystallography in quantum science and structural research.

In keeping with the terms of reference of the Commission, the CrysAC workshop on “Provenance Studies in Art and Cultural Heritage†is within the series of one-day workshops organized by the IUCr Commission on Crystallography in Art and Cultural Heritage, aimed to stimulate knowledge exchange between crystallographers, researchers and other experts interested in Cultural Heritage investigations. Different communities are invited to present reviews of established research, recent results and envisaged trends in key areas of Archaeometry and Conservation Science.
The present workshop, organised as a satellite meeting of the 7th International Congress Chemistry for Cultural heritage (CHemCH 2024, Bratislava, Slovakia), will invite scientists from research institutions, museums, and conservation bodies, in order to illustrate state-of-the-art studies focusing on determining origin of materials (manufacturing method or natural sources) and provenance of art objects (whether in the sense of regional, workshop, or period) using methods of advanced materials analysis. Although only invited contributions are planned, all interested people are invited to exchange ideas and discuss the presented topics.

For the on-site portion of the workshop, applicants must be available to travel on-site to Buffalo, New York during the dates of August 20-21, 2024. On-site workshop spaces are limited and applicants will be selected based on suitability of project and application. Note some travel support is available for researchers at US-based universities.

Sagamore XX Conference on Quantum Crystallography

Sagamore is a prestigious conference that has been held triennially since 1964 under the auspices of the IUCr Commission on Quantum Crystallography (formerly the Charge, Spin, and Momentum Densities).
The Sagamore conferences have traditionally concerned interchange between researchers interested in property densities or distributions of materials such as the electron distribution, spin distribution, nuclear particle distribution, and electrostatic potential studied by the most accurate theoretical methods, and using the most advanced experimental techniques. There has been a focus on diffraction and scattering methods, and reconciling differences between the different methodologies.
The field has undergone rapid change in the last decade, with the term “Quantum Crystallography†being used to emphasize wave function based modelling methods. At the same time, both the quantity and precision of data have also increased due to advances in detector technology. There is a race to make the data from these methods available to general chemists, and to reveal new physical and chemical insights that may be exploited.
For the first time, the Sagamore conference will be held in India on the beautiful grounds of Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence, one of the 12 Institutions of Eminence designated by the Government of India. A tour of the Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, is also included in the program.

The Polish Crystallographic Meeting, Scientific Workshop and Session of the Young Crystallographers Sections of PCrA will be held at the Institute of Low Temperature and Structure Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences, ul. Okólna 2 in Wrocław.
The Workshop is devoted to selected issues and problems of modern crystallography.
The Scientific Session of the Young Crystallographers Section of PCrAÂ is a forum for exchanging experiences addressed primarily to students, PhD students and young doctors (maximum 5 years after defense).
The topics of the Meeting include basic and applied research on the ideal and real structure of crystals carried out with the use of X-ray radiation obtained both with traditional methods and in synchrotrons, research with the use of neutrons and electrons, problems of symmetry, phase transformations and crystal growth, new research and computational methods and all other aspects of crystallography. The conference is an annual meeting place and a forum for exchanging ideas of all Polish crystallographers.
Synclight 2024 - São Paulo School of Advanced Science on 4th Generation Synchrotron Techniques

Promoted by CNPEM and funded by São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), SyncLight 2024 aims to gather young researchers from Brazil and around the world to discuss the recent opportunities offered by advanced experimental synchrotron techniques available at Sirius, the Brazilian 4th generation light source.
Over the past decades, synchrotron light sources have played a significant role in the development of modern natural sciences and engineering. With a wide range of experimental techniques available, synchrotron light sources have revolutionized the way scientists study and characterize materials in the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Health, Energy, New Materials, Environmental Sciences, and many others.
The interdisciplinary nature of the event, combined with the collaboration of the LNLS User Committee, which includes researchers from various institutions across Brazil, will contribute to the exchange of experiences among young researchers, professors, and experienced researchers. The event's program includes lectures, poster sessions, and guided tours at the facilities will also be organized. Tutorials on experiments conducted, demonstrations on the control of the accelerators, as well as data analysis and simulations taught by LNLS researchers, at the laboratory's beamlines, are also planned.
The theme is particularly relevant to the Brazilian scientific scenario, as Sirius is one of the most modern and brilliant synchrotron light sources in the world. Currently, ten beamlines are open to the scientific and technological community, out of a set of 14 initially planned to cover a wide range of scientific programs. One of the objectives of SyncLight 2024 is precisely to assist in the training and formation of a new generation of user-researchers, capable of benefiting from this large scientific infrastructure in operation in Brazil.
SyncLight 2024 is part of the São Paulo School of Advanced Science (SPSAS) modality, funded by FAPESP, which provides resources to promote short courses in different areas of knowledge in the State of São Paulo.
CrysAC Workshop â€Å"Ancient and historical glass: order or chaos?â€Â

The CrysAC workshop on "X-ray based characterization of Archaeological and Historical Glass and Glazed artifacts" is within the series of one-day workshops organized by the IUCr Commission on Crystallography in Art and Cultural Heritage, aimed to stimulate knowledge exchange between crystallographers and researchers interested in Cultural Heritage investigations. The upcoming CrysAC workshop is planned as a satellite meeting of the 34th European Crystallographic Meeting, Padova, Italy.
Different communities are invited to present reviews of established research, recent results and envisaged trends in key areas of Archaeometry and Conservation Science of Glass and Glazed Artefacts. This can encompass a wide range of cultural heritage artefacts ranging e.g. from ancient archaeological finds over decorative artwork such as medieval stained glass windows and majolica tiles to 17-18th drinking vessels.
The present workshop will invite scientists from research institutions, museums, and conservation bodies, in order to illustrate state-of-the-art applications of X-ray methods such as diffraction, fluorescence, absorption and tomography for the characterization of the above-mentioned artifacts. Papers on recent instrumental and methodological advances, opening novel fields of research on cultural heritage materials, to understand chemico-physical processes and structural transformations, are also welcome. The program will consist of invited and contributed lectures; all interested are invited to exchange ideas and discuss the presented topics.
