Call for Papers
In recent years, both synchrotron and laboratory-based facilities have witnessed astounding progress in hard x-ray nanoimaging instruments and methods. Nanoprobes with sub-100-nm resolution have proliferated, while imaging with 1-nm spatial resolution may soon become possible. Combination and correlation with other analytical techniques such as x-ray spectroscopy, diffraction, tomography, ptychography, in-situ environment, and other methods are solving more important questions than ever.ÂThis conference will focus on the latest developments in optics, instrumentation and systems, data science, and integration with other techniques, for both scanning and full-field x-ray microscopes, including:
- nanoprobes, full-field microscopes, and dedicated beamlines
- high-resolution nanofocusing optics
- instruments for nanoimaging and nanopositioning
- in-situ and operando sample environments
- data science and data management
- novel nanoimaging methods and correlative techniques
- advanced control or detection schemes.

 Hot topics to be covered by the symposium will include:
- Synthesis of metal or semiconductor nanoparticles in dielectrics (SiO2, SiN, Al2O3, polymers...) using chemical or physical routes;

Theoretical, experimental and modeling aspects of Wide and Small Angle scattering methods will be integrated by hands-on tutorials on well renowned programs for DSE and PDF Analysis (Debussy and PDFGui) and Demo sessions on SAXS and Light Scattering. The Workshop is open to all aspiring scholars and scientists in any area related to Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, and it is especially addressed to PhD students and young postdocs. Within this workshop you will get an opportunity to learn all about structure simulation using DISCUS (https://github.com/tproffen/DiffuseCode ), a program complementary to the Rietveld approach. DISCUS can simulate powder pattern for disordered materials, crystalline and nanocrystalline.
In this workshop you will learn to interpret diffuse scattering and to simulate disordered crystal structures.Â
Defects are quite common in crystals and are responsible for a number of properties like ionic conductivity, electronic properties of indirect semiconductors etc.Â
In diffraction, defects manifest themselves by the presence of diffuse scattering. While its peak intensity usually is weak, the total scattering intensity will be an appreciable fraction of the Bragg intensities.Â
Thus, the description of these structures is largely incomplete without proper interpretation of the diffuse scattering.
The workshop covers the techniques to simulate and to refine disordered structures for a wide range of defects, and the corresponding calculation of the diffraction pattern for single crystals and powder, as well as the calculation of the pair distribution function PDF.
