The thirteenth International Conference on Electron Spectroscopy and Structure: ICESS-15, will be held in Stony Brook, New York, Sept 28th to bring together some 400 people interested in the properties of electrons and their interactions in systems ranging from atoms and molecules to complex condensed matter materials. Specific topics fordiscussion will include Atomic and Molecular Science, Photochemistry, Quantum Materials, Imaging Spectroscopies, Novel Instrumentation, and Nanomaterials.
Electronic structure is one of the fundamental properties of matter, and as such has been the subject of scientific investigation for more than a century. Â However the last two decades have witnessed important new discoveries in all areas ranging from the atomic level through to that of complex materials. Â There have also been significant developments in new methods, both theoretical and experimental, for investigating these properties. Â Â New experimental techniques have often evolved at the large scale facilities and by 2015 it is anticipated that the new state-of-the-art synchrotron radiation source at BNL, the NSLS II will be operational. Â It is anticipated that attendees will have the opportunity to tour this important facility.

Fundamental Mechanisms of Ordering from the Atomic to the Mesoscale
The Crystal Growth and Assembly Gordon Research Conference (previously known as "Thin Film and Crystal Growth Mechanisms GRC") is dedicated to the knowledge and understanding of the fundamental atomic and nanoscale physics and chemistry that are central to the nucleation and growth of crystals for a wide array of technologies. This well-established conference draws researchers from around the world from the fields of physics, chemistry, materials science, biology, and beyond. Historically, the conference has emphasized concepts rather than specific materials, technologies or growth methods. Attendees are drawn together by a common interest in understanding the mechanisms of crystal nucleation and growth and applying this understanding to the development of new materials. This focus has attracted scientists with a broad range of specializations: from biomineralization to quantum dots, from advanced scanning probe microscopies to multiscale molecular modeling, and from the interactions of proteins with inorganic materials to the role of stress in pattern formation. This dynamic conference brings together researchers who find common inspiration in seeing how the general principles of crystal thermodynamics and growth kinetics are applicable to many fields.

The Macromolecular Materials Gordon Research Conference (formerly "Polymers West") has a long-standing tradition as a GRC that features a breadth of the most exciting and state-of-the-art aspects of macromolecules. This tradition will continue in the 2015 Conference and discussion of new macromolecules that are stimuli responsive and even made from sulfur will be highlighted. Macromolecular assemblies, biomaterials and even textiles will be considered. Nanoscale Spintronics with Magnons, Phonons, and Photons
Spintronics is a leading contender for future nano-scale, "beyond Moore", data storage, processing, and transmission technologies. In particular, magnetism-based spintronics has enormous largely unexplored potential given its two particular features: (i) the extreme robustness of the magnetic order parameter against elevated temperatures and nanoscale confinement, and, (ii) the power-efficient spin-torque manipulation of the magnetic order by electric currents. As researchers are probing deeper into the spin dynamics of nanostructures, new physics and associated functionalities are being discovered at a dazzling pace. The 2nd Gordon Research Conference and 1st Gordon Research Seminar on "Spin Dynamics in Nanostructures" will provide an important stage for the main players in the field (and those who want to joint them) to present and discuss new results and future plans, in theory, computation, simulation, and experiments.
The conference will touch many issues of modern spintronics and magnetism that challenge conventional wisdom. Magnetism occurs in metals and insulators, in the form of ferro-, ferri- and antiferromagnetic ground states, all with specific dynamical properties. Elementary spin wave excitations (magnons) can be excited and controlled by external stimuli such as magnetic fields, heating, electric currents, light (photons) and sound (phonons). The magnetization field may contain topological defects such as domain walls, vortices, and skyrmions that are especially susceptible to perturbations. The spin-orbit interaction is an essential ingredient to access, excite and stabilize magnetic textures and their dynamics. As structures approach the nanometer scale, new challenges arise due to the increased role of internal interfaces and contacts to the outside world and novel emerging quantum effects. Moreover, studies on the femtosecond to picosecond time-scales provide insights into regimes which defy established wisdom.
We invite starting and expert researchers from academia and industry with backgrounds in experiment, theory, and computation of magnetism, optics, mechanics, electronics and thermoelectrics to participate in these meetings. The goal of these meetings is to exchange ideas and to discuss the most recent progress and most challenging problems. Of special welcome are junior scientists working on or interested in the field. At the preceding 1st Gordon Research Seminar in magnetism they will receive briefings from leading researchers as well as present and extensively discuss their work among themselves in order to maximally profit from the subsequent conference.

About the Workshop
We are proud to announce that the International Workshop on Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya Interaction and Exotic Spin Structures (DMI 2015) will take place in Pskov, Russia on May 26 â€" 29, 2015. The III International Workshop DMI 2015, hosted by the Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute (PNPI), follows two previous meetings held in Saint Petersburg (2011) and Veliky Novgorod (2013). DMI 2015 is intended for researchers working in the field of the structural and magnetic properties of noncentrosymmetric crystals and artificial nanostructures. The objective of the workshop is to serve as a platform for scientific discussion and exchange of ideas among the scientists willing to share their research findings as well as to review and discuss the recent progress, developments and advances in DMI and chiral magnetism.
Scientific scope
The workshop will include the application of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya Interaction (DMI) to the following areas:
- cubic ferromagnets without center of symmetry;
- antiferromagnets without center of symmetry;
- nanostructures at the surfaces and interfaces;
- weak ferromagnetism.
DMI 2015 will present invited talks, oral reports and poster presentations.
