12th International Conference on Inelastic X-ray Scattering (IXS2022)

Hosted by Diamond Light Source, the 12th International Conference on Inelastic X-ray Scattering (IXS2022) will be held at the Saïd Business School, Oxford, UK, from Sunday 21 to Friday 26 August 2022. It continues a series of meetings held biannually, most recently hosted by Brookhaven National Laboratory in New York, USA (2019).
This conference will bring together scientists from all over the world interested in the use and development of both resonant and non-resonant inelastic X-ray scattering to address a broad range of materials science challenges. IXS2022 is your opportunity to share new scientific discoveries and the latest developments in the instrumentation, experimental approaches and theories, and to discuss future directions in the field.
Call for abstracts
The Programme Committee welcomes abstracts for posters and/or contributed talks within the theme areas below; all abstracts must be submitted on the provided template via the Oxford Abstracts submission portal:
- Quantum and functional materials (experimental and theory)
- Energy materials, chemistry and catalysts
- Soft and liquid systems, biomaterials and extreme conditions
- Time-domain spectroscopy
- Instrumentation and novel methods
The submission deadline is Friday 1 April 2022 at 17:00 UK time. Presenters will be notified week commencing 9 May 2022 on the outcome of their submission.

Registration is open here. Standard delegates can save up to £100 when registering before the Early Bird deadline of 15 May 2022. The delegate ticket and student ticket include access to all sessions, the welcome reception, tea and coffee breaks and daily lunches.

It is a great pleasure and honour to invite colleagues from academia and business, as well as young researchers and students from all parts of the world to attend the Materials Science Conference. The conference, scheduled from October 11-14, 2021 is organized by Prism Scientific Services in collaboration with The University of Queensland.

The conference will underpin the need and importance of collaboration and cooperation by individuals from a wide range of professional backgrounds. Materials Oceania will bring together a multidisciplinary group of scientists and engineers from all over the world to present latest findings and to exchange their ideas. This in turn paves the way for further discoveries, which most often happen where disciplines and specialists meet and congregate. In fact the development of materials was, is and will be fundamental for all technological applications, and in the entire field of applied science targeting the improvement of quality of life for humanity. At the end of the materials conference, we hope that attendees will feel they have generated the most up-to-date information available.

Why this meeting?
The Quantum Crystallography Online Meeting 2020 (QCrOM2020) is a three-day meeting to be held on 27th, 28th and 29th August 2020. In addition, a satellite meeting will take place on 26th August to familiarize newcomers with the topics covered.
This initiative was taken by the commission on Quantum Crystallography (chaired by Jean-Michel Gillet) under the auspices of the International Union of Crystallography.
The IUCr meeting in Prague has been postponed to a more appropriate date, hopefully August 2021. However, we believe that science should never be put on hold, and an essential part of its progress is fuelled by exchanging ideas with peers. This is even more crucial for young researchers or graduate students.
What is it about?
Quantum Crystallography is where the most advanced quantum chemistry methods (for solving Schrödinger's equation) meet high-resolution X-ray, neutron or electron scattering techniques (mostly developed for crystallography studies). Accurate determination of electron distribution or wavefunction is one particularly important topic, as it is the key component for understanding essential properties of solid materials such as charge or spin transport, cohesion or reactivity. Quantum Crystallography thus makes valuable contributions to chemistry, biology, electronics or material engineering.
The meeting aims to provide the community with as many opportunities as possible to exchange ideas through poster sessions, discussion panels and a very limited number of plenary talks. Particular attention will be paid to the different time zones of the partipants.
What can you do as a participant?
For a young researcher, QCrOM2020 is the perfect opportunity to present and informally discuss your results with a large portion of the QCr community.
For a more experienced researcher, QCrOM2020 is a way to stay up to date with latest results and share your expertise with the younger generation through poster sessions, informal talks and even job offers.
For a newcomer, QCrOM2020 is a chance to get to know a new research topic with no significant impact on your budget (and a very limited carbon footprint).
Who is organizing?
QCrOM2020 is an initiative from the commission on Quantum Crystallography to overcome the current situation and, possibly, to pave the way for transforming a fraction of traditional meetings to a less expensive and more sustainable format.
All the logistic aspects have been conducted by a team of four fully dedicated engineering students from CentraleSupélec ("Université Paris-Saclay").
