The second meeting of the Latin American Crystallographic Association will be held alongside the Eighth National Congress of the Mexican Society of Crystallography, and the Sixth Mexican Synchrotron Radiation Users Meeting. This combination of events is of great importance for the Latin American crystallographic community, which held its first formal meeting in São Paulo, Brazil, building on a previous meeting in the city of Cordoba, Argentina. This forum aims to reconvene crystallographers and members of the community interested in crystallography and related sciences within the Latin American countries. It follows the recent entry of the Latin American Association of Crystallography as a Regional Associate of the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr) in 2014.

We cordially invite you to attend the 2016 Asian Crystallographic Association Meeting (AsCA2016, http://www.asca2016.org), to be held in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, at Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

The AsCA2016 meeting will consist of two parallel satellite meetings, eighteen microsymposia, an education conference workshop on minerals and gems, crystallographic software sessions, a special section on materials and a ‘Rising Star’ session by young scientists. Scientific scope of the AsCA2016 will cover all important aspects of crystallography-related areas, including synchrotron/neutron, structural biology, chemical crystallography, materials and polymer science, crystal growth/crystallization, electron microscopy, informatics, and much more.

The AsCA2016 would be officially held for three and half days, during December 4-7, 2016 (Sun â€" Wednesday). The weather is usually mild and fines during this period of the year, and we would endeavour to make your stay an unforgettable one. The First Meeting of the Latin American Crystallographic Association will be held in conjunction with the Twenty Second meeting of the Brazilian Crystallographic Association.

This meeting will be of great importance for the Latin American crystallographic Community. It will gather crystallographers from all the American countries as part of the LACA, that recently became a Regional Associate of the IUCr.

Apart from the scientific importance of this meeting, we foresee the beginning of a new, stronger relationship among all the crystallographers in the American continents. The meeting in São Paulo, Brazil, follows the pattern of the previous one in Córdoba, Argentina, and we expect a large number of participants from all countries.

ECM29 Satellite meeting organised by Diamond Light Source & Croatian Association of Crystallographers

DIALS (Diffraction Integration for Advanced Light Sources) is a new integration package being developed as a collaboration between Diamond Light Source, CCP4 and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, with significant input from the MRC-LMB and funding from Biostruct-X workpackage 6. The aim of this workshop is to introduce new users to the package, with a view to using the software for X-ray diffraction data processing from macromolecular samples. Since the software is completely free and open source the workshop attendees will have the opportunity to bring their own laptop computers to have the software installed, and will need to do so to run the tutorials.

The meeting will cover diverse aspects of crystallographic research ranging from life sciences, drug development, crystal engineering to theory, instrumentation, synchrotron and neutron studies.

The International Program Committee is working very hard to bring together a stimulating program that covers all aspects of crystallography with research talks on progress at the forefront of our subject. 2015 marks a very special anniversary in our discipline marking 100 years since the Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to Sir William Henry Bragg and his son William Lawrence Bragg.

The 2014 Annual Conference of the BACG will be hosted by the University of Leeds, which is the home of the pioneering work underpinning the discipline of X-ray crystallography undertaken by William Henry Bragg and his son, William Lawrence Bragg in 1912-13, and for which they were jointly awarded a Nobel Prize in Physics in 1915. This conference will provide a forum for the exchange of scientific/technological ideas and findings amongst researchers from the UK and overseas focusing on the following topics. Internationally renowned researchers, both from academia and industry, will deliver a series of stimulating lectures.Â

The First Latin American Crystallography Meeting is being organized as a joint event with the IXth Annual Meeting of the Argentinean Crystallographic Association in Córdoba, Argentina. It will be hosted by the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba - www.unc.edu.ar , coinciding with the celebration of the 400th anniversary of its foundation in 1613. UNC is the oldest university in Argentina and number 4 among the oldest in Latin America. Its original pavilions and buildings have been declared by UNESCO as World Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Welcome to AsCA 12/CRYSTAL 28

A Joint Meeting of the Asian Crystallographic Association (AsCA),Â
Society of Crystallographers in Australia and New Zealand (SCANZ) and the BRAGG Symposium

November 2012 marks the centenary of the founding of X-ray crystallography by Lawrence Bragg, a field in which he and his father, William, made pre-eminent contributions that were recognised by the award of the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1915. William was the Elder Professor of Physics at the University of Adelaide from 1886 to 1909 and Lawrence was born and educated in Adelaide.Â

To celebrate this important anniversary, the legacy of the Braggs' discoveries in X-ray crystallography and the insights that they have provided into the structure of matter, a combined scientific meeting of the Asian Crystallography Association and the Society of Crystallographers in Australia and New Zealand is to be held in Adelaide from the 2nd to 5th of December 2012. The Conference will be followed by the Bragg Symposium at the University of Adelaide on the 6th of December 2012 that will explore some of the historical context and personal links to the Braggs' work as well as present some of the broader scientific and social impacts of the Braggs' work. The Conference and Symposium will have a strong line-up of national and international speakers.

28th European Crystallography Meeting

The main conference drew to a close following an inspiring lecture by Nobel Prize winner Dan Shechtman “Quasi-Periodic Materials â€" Crystals Redefined”.

Conference organisers Sandy Blake and Elspeth Garman thanked the many people involved in planning and running the meeting; the meeting has been an outstanding success thanks to a lot of hard work behind the scenes. A special thanks to Mike Glazer, Pam Thomas and their team for the wonderful ‘Two Braggs Exhibition’ which has run throughout the meeting and brought together a fascinating and inspiring collection of artefacts, art and correspondence never before seen in one exhibition.
During the closing ceremony many poster prizes were awarded. Congratulations to all of the well-deserving winners. Details will appear in the meeting reports, which will be linked from here, in due course.

Meeting Round-up

The 2012 Annual Meeting was held in Boston, Mass., July 28 through August 1. (785) participants presented 258 posters and 294 lectures at the beautiful Westin Waterfront Hotel. Thirty-nine exhibitors participated in the Exhibit Show, beginning with the Opening Reception on Saturday and running through Tuesday evening. Â Attendees traveled from 30 different counties with 23% of the total participants coming from outside the USA. Young scientists (students and post-docs) represented 32% of the total meeting attendance. Â Eleven posters were selected for poster prizes, sponsored by the ACA and seven other groups. Nine students were selected to receive the Margaret C. Etter Student Lecturer Award. Each was invited to give a lecture and was presented with a certificate and monetary award. Â The meeting was financially supported by 33 organizations (scroll down for complete list) whose contributions were used to support young scientists, speakers and social events. We gratefully acknowledge the generosity of our meeting sponsors whose support sustains the high caliber of our meetings that our attendees have come to expect. Â Marius Krawiec (Vertec Pharmaceuticals) won free membership for 2013 by attending the Business Meeting. Â Winners of the free hotel room raffle were: Â Ming Dong (U. of Delaware), Gary Angles (New Mexico Highlands U.), Annet Bodenheimer (North Carolina State U.), Miguel Garcia-Garibay (U. of California, L.A.), and Bobby Barnett (U. of Cincinnati).
